WHERE

Sprawling between the Condroz plateau and the Ardennes woodland, Fagne-Famenne has a undulating landscape with alternating strips of forests and meadows surrounded by beautiful little villages. The grasslands, once grazed by sheep, conceal a natural environment with exceptional biodiversity.

Situated on the east side of the Meuse, the area is also called “the Valley Country”, a land with abbeys, gardens and castles. The village of Frandeux is formed by some 40 houses and is situated in the valley of Vachaux, about 6 km from Rochefort. In the area there are lots of wildlife, including wild boar and deer.

ACCOMODATION

Château Frandeux is located in a tranquil nature reserve on the outskirts of the Belgian Ardennes. On the domain there are beautiful old beech and oak trees and a small lake and river valley.

Opposite the main entrance of the Château there is a small hill -the mound- that dates from the 1st century BC or AC. On the flat top are standing 8 lime trees in a circle. There is an assumption that it used to be a Celtic sanctuary, because often a monastery or castle was built near the mound, similarly to Frandeux.
